Scientific Support Job Offer

We are looking for you to join the Empirical Research Support team as a software developer.

The Empirical Research Support supports researchers at CISPA in conducting empirical studies (e.g., user studies on cybersecurity). At the same time, we build central infrastructure of the center for conducting empirical/behavioral information security research and teach the associated research methodology. In this exciting field, new challenges can often be solved by developing software.

How you are going to support us

You design and develop software in coordination with the Empirical Research Support Team that helps us manage our daily tasks. This ranges from creating administrative web apps to developing sophisticated scripts that can read and process data from scientific instruments (e.g. eye trackers).

What you bring to the table

Know-How

• You work in Python or another programming language and you want to develop your Python skills.

• You have already successfully programmed software (whether for yourself privately or for business).

• You can communicate effectively in English.

General conditions

• You are currently enrolled at a German university.

• You have at least six months to support us.

• You would like to work with us between 10 and 19 hours/week.

Mindset

• You work independently, are self-motivated and willing to take responsibility for the design and development of the software.

• Thoroughly testing and documenting your code is your second nature.

• You enjoy working in a team and can coordinate your work effectively with others.

• You have a flair for usability/user experience.

To make sure that your studies, your part-time job and your private life fit together, we offer you flexible working hours that take your individual situation into account. After consultation, you can also work from outside Saarbrücken/St. Ingbert if you do not live locally (a residence in Germany is still mandatory)

As soon as we receive your documents, we will look at them and give you feedback by the end of the following calendar week at the latest.

In a second step, we will invite you to an online interview to get to know you. In the run-up to the interview, you will receive a task from us in which we will ask you to describe in writing how you would solve a practical problem posed by us. The task should take a maximum of 1-2 hours to complete and does not require any programming. You will receive more information in our response to your application.
