About the program

The CISPA Founders Fellowship is a 12-month funding program for outstanding researchers with the goal of becoming an entrepreneur. Transitioning from research into your one's own business is very challenging, which is why this program aims to

  • give small teams of up to three people interested in founding a company the opportunity to prepare the incorporation and finding product-market fit.
  • help participants acquire the required knowledge, skills, and networks needed to be successful entrepreneurs. The team is given the necessary resources and support to achieve these goals.
  • promote the commercialization of innovative research in the fields of information security, privacy, and AI/ML.
  • foster a culture of entrepreneurship at CISPA by creating a community of entrepreneurial scientists that can support each other, share best practices, and will help us build an innovation ecosystem.

Eligibility & requirements

  • Teams of 1-3 individuals who aim to commercialize their research at CISPA.
  • Participants are typically Ph.D. students who will finish their dissertation within the next six months or postdoctoral researchers.
  • A promising business case for the project. Ideally, the team has already identified a potential product-market fit for their idea, but this is not essential.
  • The idea has been confirmed by implementing a prototype and/or testing it in a lab setting (TRL 3-4)
  • It is necessary to have the explicit support of at least one CISPA faculty member, ideally the one who will later become your scientific advisor.
  • Ideally, the team should have both technical expertise and business acumen.
